What is Printmaking?
What is printmaking? Printmaking is the process of making artworks by printing, or transferring ink from one surface to another. Starfangled Press creates original prints using traditional printmaking techniques such as etching, woodcut, letterpress, and screen print.
Unlike a reproduction, an original print is created by an artist as an original artwork in its own right . All original prints and printed objects created at Starfangled Press are printed by hand with top-quality materials from a plate, block, or screen on which the artist has directly worked.
Kristen Necessary was born and raised in southwest Virginia among the mountains of Central Appalachia. The experience of this place continues to exert a strong influence on her artistic work in which investigates the interdependent relationship of place and identity.
Kristen currently lives in Brevard, NC where she works as a studio artist, educator, and owner + operator of Starfangled Press. She teaches printmaking workshops in the Western North Carolina community at Starfangled Press in Brevard and at Asheville BookWorks in West Asheville.
