5+12+19+26 September 2017 • Introduction to Less-Toxic Etching

Tuesdays• 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

$295 all materials included

Minimum of 4 participants, Maximum of 6 participants.

This workshop will introduce the fundamentals of safe and sustainable Intaglio printmaking, providing valuable information for both beginners and experienced printers. Techniques covered will include copper plate preparation, drypoint, less-toxic hard and soft grounds, etching with ferric chloride, and printing.

Each participant  will create and print two 5” x 7” copper plates, developing their images through hand drawing and/or the imprinting of textures into the ground. Plates will be printed using oil-based inks, but no petroleum-based grounds or solvents will be used in this course. This significantly reduces the presence of the fumes and odors associated with traditional Intaglio practice. In addition to learning basic techniques and proper press operation, students will gain a general understanding of the medium’s history and the ability to discern quality Intaglio prints.
